科学論文では、what,whose,whom,how,why,whenなどの関係詞と、これらの複合関係詞(whatever,wheneverなど)はあまり使われません。
Yesterday, I met a person whose name was Bill Clinton.
I repaired a moter bike, the engine of which was overheated.
One might consider two possible causes for the decrease in plasma density: (1)degradation of the cathod; and (2)surface contamination of the anode, the latter of which is believed to be more likely in our experimental facility.
in which case = if it happens, if it is true
during which time = if it happens, if it is true
The external hydrogen pressure may remain unchanged even as the internal hydrogen concentration increases, in which case one should assume that the metal-hydrogen system has entered the two-phase condition.
Hydrogen absorption continues until the thermodynamic equilibrium is established at 500 K, during which period one expects to see a rather rapid decrease in external hydrogen pressure.
The sample is heated in an infra-red furnance, shown in Fig. 2, where the dual-filament structure is employed for an extended period of use.
この場合、whereの先行詞はFig.2ではなく、an infra-red furnanceです。
This argument leads to the expression: K(r)=K(0)exp(-Q/kT) in which Q(d)=2Q(s) as in the model described above but where the frequency factor depends on the gas temperature and on the stricking coefficient which is yet to be determined.
